Feeling a bit unsettled these days? It is understandable if you do. The threat of national bankruptcy along with drastic weather patterns, unemployment, underemployment and financial instability add up to a simmering pot of stress, wreaking havoc on our personal relationships, lifestyle, and health.
So who do we trust to pull us through? The Republicans? The Democrats? The Obama White House?
Saint Theodora would tell you to put all your trust in God. Repeatedly she reminded the sisters to trust God alone “Put yourself gently into the hands of Providence, trusting all your affairs to Him,” she wrote (Letters and Journals, 372).
We also know this from Scripture. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight” (Proverbs 3:5).
Life should be easy for Christians. If you truly believe the Word, you trust in God’s promise to care for all of your needs. You know when you maintain an ongoing conversation with God, the Spirit guides you along through rough as well as smooth pathways. You can trust that God is with you every step of the way.
Everything settles out eventually. Keep working, loving, and praying. Recognize the many blessings you do have and give thanks for them. Most of all, enjoy the moment. The present is God’s gift to you.
